Lifetime Achievement Award

February 8, 2021

Dear Members of the Society of Christian Ethics,

The Lifetime Achievement Award of the Society of Christian Ethics is given at the discretion of the Board of Directors to recognize outstanding, sustained, and substantive contributions that have advanced the field of Christian ethics. Each year the Board invites all members to help identify those members of the Society whose work over many years has made a lasting contribution to our field. Normally the following factors are taken into consideration: the quality, reception, and quantity of the member’s publications; the degree to which the member’s scholarship has contributed to defining issues Christian ethicists must address; the member’s influence within the field of Christian ethics as manifested in the work of her or his students; and the influence of the member’s scholarship in promoting the importance and relevance of Christian ethics for audiences beyond the discipline itself and beyond the academy. Further information about the award, including the list of past recipients, can be found on the Society’s website

Information about nominees is gathered by the Lifetime Achievement Award Committee, which if possible would make a recommendation to the Executive Committee of the Board at its spring meeting in April 2021. The membership of this selection committee changes each year, being made up of the three Board members who have just completed their four-year terms of office, with the past president serving as chair. Members this year will be Ruben Rosario Rodriguez, Aana Marie Vigen, and Darlene Fozard Weaver, with Jennifer Herdt serving as chair.

If you wish to nominate someone for consideration, please send a letter of nomination that includes a concise description of the nominee’s accomplishments. If the nominee’s CV can be discretely obtained, that would be helpful. Letters of nomination may be emailed to Andrea Taylor, SCE Executive Director, at [email protected] and must arrive before midnight March 30, 2021.

Please note that the SCE has created a dedicated fund for donations members may wish to make specifically to defray the expenses associated with this award. Donations to this fund (or any other of our dedicated funds) are always deeply appreciated and are fully tax deductible. Don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or Andrea Taylor at [email protected] if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Jennifer
