The Department of Religious Studies at Stanford University invites nominations and applications for a tenured senior appointment in Religious Studies at the rank of full professor.  Candidates should be established scholars of modern/contemporary religious, ethical, and social thought in the West and possess a distinguished record of scholarship, excellence in teaching, and interdepartmental program building.  Areas of specialization might include: religion and public life, religious social ethics, religion and political philosophy, globalization, and the like.  The successful candidate will train graduate students in the department’s subfield of Modern Religious Thought, Ethics, & Philosophy and serve on dissertation committees in other university programs; develop undergraduate courses appropriate to the university’s commitment to ethics across the curriculum and education for citizenship; and build strong bridges to other Stanford programs such as the Center for Ethics in Society, the Program on Global Justice, the Law School, and the Freeman Spogli Center for International Studies.  Applicants should send full curriculum vitae and a brief statement of research interests to: Senior Search; Brent Sockness, Committee Chair; Department of Religious Studies; 450 Serra Mall, Building 70; Stanford, California, 94305-2165.  For full consideration, materials must be received by November 24, 2010.  The term of appointment would begin September 1, 2011.  Stanford University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty.  It welcomes nominations of, and applications from, women and members of minority groups, as well as others who would bring additional dimensions to the university's research and teaching missions.
