Search Committee

The Search Committee, appointed by the President as needed, to identify and vet candidates for term positions within the Society, most notably that of Executive Director and the editor(s) of the Journal of the SCE at five-year intervals.

The SCE Board has begun a search for our next editors, whose five-year term will begin when Patricia Beattie Jung and Mary Jo Iozzio steps down on June 30, 2013. A search committee—consisting of Darryl Trimiew (chair), Grace Kao, Laura Stivers, MT Davila —is identifying and reviewing candidates through 2011-2012. They plan to propose a nominee for approval by the Board in Spring 2012.


Position:  Co-Editors of the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics

Description of Position: Editors must work in a team environment to develop and produce two issues of the JSCE each year; maintain and work with an Editorial Board; and sharpen the quality of the JSCE through regular assessment of publication criteria, reviewer responsibilities, and author eligibility.  Accordingly, editors must also apply as a team (seeking 2 editors).

Minimum Requirements:  Knowledge of and familiarity with the JSCE and the work and mission of the Society of Christian Ethics (SCE).  Editors should be members of the SCE and have attended several meetings.  Editors should have publications and/or edited works in the field of Christian Ethics.  They should also have at least one year of related work experience proofreading/preparing academic manuscripts, scholarly journals or books for production, or an area closely related to the work to be performed; experience in the use of appropriate editing techniques (Word Track Changes, Adobe Professional, digital book file formats) and working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th. Their ability to communicate professionally and effectively both written and orally is a must, as is their ability to complete the work according to specific deadlines.  Editors should have served as members of the editorial board of the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics, and are expected to work with the full Board of Directors and its members in the work of the society and in preparation of the annual meeting. 

Desired Qualifications: Experience in the production of academic manuscripts, scholarly journals or books, or closely related area, including proofreading; experience in the production sector of the highly specialized field of scholarly or commercial publishing; particular strength in the following areas: project management; effective collaborative approach with ability to develop and successfully explain assignments; strong work ethic and ability to function independently; professional demeanor; ability to think creatively; highly developed technical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.  We will give priority to candidates who have served on the JSCE board, but will consider applicants with extensive editorial experience who have not served on the board of the journal.
Required tasks:  Editors are expected to perform additional tasks as listed in an addendum which is available for those who are interested.

Editors have a five year term and receives a stipend of $2000 per editor per year.
